Should I bring food for him?
Most pets will be fine for the few hours they are away from home. Food usually
goes untouched, as there so many other things to keep him occupied. Because
some pets can become a little car sick, or just get a nervous tummy when away
from home, it is sometimes best to forego breakfast for his spa day. The exception
is very young, small breed puppies.
Is my dog ready yet?
The grooming process involves several steps. Unlike a human hair dresser,
dogs are not groomed one at a time. Once all the pets are checked in, the
initial clips and bathing begins. Toenails trimmed, ears cleaned and then
the finishing grooms are started. Your pet is a busy little bee all day long!
How old should my puppy be before he gets his first groom?
Breeds with longer coats should begin the grooming process as soon as the
second round of puppy shots(DHLPP) has been completed. These breeds include
poodles, cocker spaniels, lhasas, shih tzus, terriers and the like. It's a
good idea to familiarize your puppy with grooming, even if it's just for a
bath and simple tidy up to start out with. He will come to learn that grooming
is a FUN and positive thing, not scary at all!
My pet is shaking. Could it be that he is scared?
Not necessarilly. He may just be excited from the car ride, or cold, or simply
not sure whether he is going to the vet or not! Much like little kids in pre
school, once you are gone, they
settle right into their day, filled with fun things to see, smell and do. Dogs are very intuative, as
we all know, and will pick up on any anxiety you may be feeling, and begin
to think that there may be something to be worried about after all. If your
pet knows that you are comfortable leaving him, he will feel comfortable being
left.
Does my pet have to stay all day?
Most pets don't have a problem staying most of the day, as we offer a virtually
cage free environment in a more relaxed atmosphere. However, we will be happy
to help you with scheduling for
an early pickup. Just let us know when you call in for your appointment that
you will need a specific pick up time.
What is included in a bath and/or groom service?
A bath service includes a toenail trim and file, ears cleaned, anal glands
expressed, fluff dry and brush out. Tidy ups and sanitary clips include all
bath services as well as pads, feet and under the tail area and belly clipped.
Full grooms include all of the above, along with whatever type of haircut
chosen. Cologne and choice of bows or bandana are always included, unless
otherwise requested.
Can regular grooming help with shedding?
Yes. We offer the FURminator
treatment to help with shed control. This is a four step process, involving
specific all natural products to help loosen the coat during the bathing and
drying process. We then use a tool designed to remove the dead, excessive
undercoat. Regular treatments can reduce shedding year round by up to 80%!
How much is all this going to cost?
Cost will depend on services provided, type of breed, as well as condition
of the coat, extra brushing or hand scissoring. Extra services such as flea
treatments and medicated baths (oatmeal, aloe, melaluca), will vary by price
according to size and breed. We will be happy to discuss options and pricing
with you once we see your pet.
Can my pet be dipped for fleas?
We offer flea treatments using natural shampoos. Natural products are safe
and effective for removing fleas present on your pet. They offer no residual
effect, however, so, for effective flea control, it is important to treat
the entire enviornment while your pet is being treated at the salon.
Do cats get groomed?
Absolutely! Short haired kitties can benefit from occasional baths as well
as FURminator treatments to help
with shedding issues. Medium and long coated breeds are a given. We offer
baths and brushouts (when coat condition allows), as well as lion clips or
simply shave downs to relieve matting that is common with heavily coated cats.
Many cats, as you can imagine , can be a bit more difficult to groom, and
take longer to dry than dogs. Because they will spend more of the day at the
spa, we provide a separate, quieter area, just for cats, to make their stay
as comfortable and stress free as possible.
